We recently carried out an employment survey of 2,000 full-time employees who had changed jobs in the past three years. Nearly 70% of these employees came to the conclusion that their previous job wasn’t right for them within the first year of being in role.

No business function has been immune to the sweeping impact of digital transformation in recent years. New technology has been helping to improve productivity across all areas of business, while also providing streams of data, which enable us all to work smarter.

Are there certain aspects of recruitment software that we use today that can actually promote GDPR compliance?

Whether it’s a common cold or a family issue, there are a multitude of reasons why employees may need time off work. Recurrent absences or lateness can, however, point towards bigger problems that companies must address. According to the CIPD, one third of organisations have recorded an increase in stress-related absence in the last year. There is also a growing awareness of mental health related problems in the workplace, in fact, the NHS reports that one in every three sick notes handed out to patients in the last year were for mental health problems.

In the same way that organisations have shifted their focus to the overall customer experience, HR teams must devote greater attention to the overall employee experience. Companies that are competing to attract and retain the best talent available are adapting to societal changes, brought about by advances in consumer technology.

Google for Jobs could be the biggest shake up in the way candidates apply for jobs since Indeed first started scraping job boards back in 2004. Currently only available in the US, Google for Jobs is likely to roll out to the UK market in the coming months. So what is it, how does it work, and how can you make sure your jobs appear on what will surely be the new starting point for any candidate searching for a job?

According to a study from the World Economic Forum, millennials are seeking ‘a sense of purpose’ in the job they choose. This requirement ranks second only to salary. Millennials want to work environment that inspires and motivates them, and being a digital savvy generation, they can balk at the mundane realities of paperwork when what they really want to do is make a difference in the world.

Many organisations look to improve employee wellbeing by creating relaxed office spaces or by offering free food. Some of these workspace enhancements have proved popular, yet others have led to criticism – labelled as nothing more than superficial gestures.

Time and attendance tools are becoming vital to help organisations improve employee wellbeing, reduce costs and improve profitability.

Gender equality is an issue high up on the political agenda – not just in the UK but global

The government’s decision to include employees working in the ‘gig economy’ was a bit of game changer for gender pay reporting.

When do two people with a £25k salary not earn the same amount? Well, potentially when you’re reporting on gender pay.

The legal obligations for gender pay gap reporting are pretty straight forward. You simply need to publish six figures and you’ve got until April 5 next year to do it, or slightly sooner if you are in the public sector. How could this possibly cause you a headache?

Reporting the gender pay gap: a 3-step process

Reporting the gender pay gap is likely to be a lot more complex than we all first believed. The requirements are fairly straight forward – publish six pay averages relating to men and women. However, to understand the results, the analysis will need to go a lot deeper than the legal requirements and there is a very good chance you’ll need to involve more people within your company prior to reporting the figures.
